The final match of Sting’s legendary career will take place at a venue that’s very familiar to him.

It was the October 18th edition of AEW Dynamite when the Sting announced that he would have his retirement match at the AEW Revolution pay-per-view in 2024. There was no date announced for that show.

On the November 29th edition of AEW Dynamite, announcer Tony Schiavone announced that Sting’s final match will take place on Sunday, March 3rd at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina.

During his AEW career, Sting has a 24-0 record with all of those matches being tag team actions. Sting has teamed up with Darby Allin in al lof those matches.

Sting’s most recent match was at AEW Full Gear 2023 when he teamed with Adam Copeland & Darby Allin to defeat Christian Cage, Luchasaurus & Nick Wayne in a six-man tag team match.

Why Did AEW Choose Greensboro For Sting’s Final AEW Match

The Greensboro Coliseum is a very important building when it comes to Sting’s pro wrestling career. That was the venue when Sting challenged Ric Flair for the first NWA Clash of the Champions special on March 27th, 1988. They had a legendary 45-minute match that ended in a draw so that Flair retained the championship while many people believe that match “put Sting on the map” in terms of making the Stinger a bigger star.

During AEW Dynamite, Sting & Ric Flair were interviewed by Tony Schiavone, which led to some interesting comments.

Sting: “March 1988, my very first World title match against Ric Flair, and I never would have guessed all these years later, I’d be standing here with Ric. The memories, that night, 45 minutes, draw, commercial free on TV. The big deal to me was I was in the ring with the Nature Boy Ric Flair. Thank you, Ric. He put me on the map. What a fitting place for me to end my career all these years later.”

Ric Flair: “Tony, just like before, the words cannot be spoken to the volume and the emphasis of what’s about to take place in Greensboro. Make no mistake. Sting made himself. I’m 74 years old, I’m lucky. I’m working for Tony Khan. I’m standing next to Sting. I’m honored to be there at your side. This will be one for the ages. Sting and the Nature Boy, and AEW, are coming to Greensboro. Wooooo!”

Sting: “It’s showtime!”

There was no opponent announced for Sting’s match at Revolution 2024 and it’s also not known if it will be a singles match or a tag team match.
