A top AEW name is set to miss significant in-ring time for a very unique reason.

Wrestlers taking time away from the ring for outside interests has been common place over the years, be it Chris Jericho’s tours with rock band Fozzy or the ventures into Hollywood movies for the likes of John Cena and Batista.

AEW Star Darby Allin is set for a sabbatical from the squared circle for an altogether different reason, with the Seattle-born star set to scale Mount Everest.

Following a victorious evening at AEW Full Gear, in which Allin teamed with Sting and Adam Copeland to defeat Christian Cage, Luchasaurus & Nick Wayne, the announcers revealed that the 30 year-old former AEW TNT Champion was set to depart for the mammoth climb.

Speaking recently on Wrestling Observer Radio, journalist Bryan Alvarez confirmed that Allin was set to depart for China to train for the hike, but that his effort the scale Everest would not come until 2024:

“The announcers then stated that Darby was supposed to get on a red-eye after this match to go climb Mount Everest. I was told that he is getting a red-eye, and I don’t know this for sure, but I think he’s flying to China to train.

I don’t think he’s actually climbing Mount Everest just yet. But that is what they said on television. One way or another, he’s going to be gone for a while. He is actually training. It’s not a storyline.”

AEW Star Excited For Once In A Lifetime Challenge

Darby Allin has previously spoken about his upcoming climb, revealing his excitement about the challenge and noting that the climb can only take place in the months of April and May.
