AEW Star Expected To Sign With WWE In 2024

Another AEW star could be heading for the exit.

In recent weeks the winds of change have been blowing through AEW with a number of on-screen and behind-the-scenes figures leaving the company. The likes of QT Marshall, Kevin Sullivan, Rafael Morfi, and Dana Massie — the wife of Matt Jackson, have all left AEW, while Megha Parekh is now working closely with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Although not a major player in more recent times, Shawn Spears has also announced he’s leaving the company.

Against this backdrop, Andrade El Idolo has also not so quietly begun working with CMLL for the first time in nearly a decade. Following a recent appearance, Andrade said he remains open-minded about his future, with his comments coming after it was reported he believes his AEW deal is up soon.

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer stated that those in WWE expect the star to return. There have been reports linking Andrade with a move back to WWE for well over a year.

“Andrade talked to the press after the match and said he’s got a lot of open doors in 2024 and he’s not sure which one he’ll choose. I do know that those in WWE expect him to return. I also know those close to him who say that he may very well go back but is also open to stay if Tony Khan makes a better offer than WWE. He would also like to work New Japan and would have wanted to do FantasticaMania in February but it conflicts with his schedule.”

When Was Andrade El Idolo In WWE?

After a glittering career in Mexico, Andrade signed with WWE in 2015. From here, the man also known as La Sombra began his climb up the ladder, winning the NXT Title. Andrade eventually moved to the main roster in 2018 alongside Zelina Vega.

However, a consistent run of success eluded him on both Raw and SmackDown and the star requested his release in March 2021. Although his request was initially denied, Andrade was released by WWE the same month, leaving a former NXT and United States Champion.
