An AEW veteran is set to leave the promotion.

Following a report from Fightful Select, Shawn Spears has confirmed he’s leaving AEW. Shortly after the news broke, Spears took to social media to share a short statement, thanking the company for their support, and explaining that it was his decision to leave.

Spears will become a free agent on January 1st, 2024.

What a wonderful time it has been.

Thank you
@AEW
for allowing me to be there from the ground level. It’s been a fantastic 5 years of growth and personal development.

This is a personal choice and one that is best for me and my family at this time.

Thank you to all, staff and talent alike for the memories ❤️

Most importantly, to the incredible fans of ALL professional wrestling: I love you guys. I really do.

Shawn Spears signed with AEW back in 2019, making his debut at the promotion’s inaugural pay-per-view Double or Nothing. The star went on to become part of The Pinnacle, alongside FTR and Tully Blanchard helping leader MJF as he rose to the main event picture.

Spears spent much of 2022 and 2023 out of the ring and largely away from television.

Prior to joining AEW, the star had two spells with WWE but found most success in the second stint where his ‘Perfect 10’ gimmick was incredibly popular with fans in NXT and then on the main roster.

Spears and wife Cassie Lee recently announced they’re expecting their second child.

Shawn Spears Joins QT Marshall In Making AEW Exit

Back in November, it was revealed that QT Marshall is also leaving AEW and will become a free agent in January. As well as appearing as an on-screen character, Marshall was an important figure backstage working in a number of roles, including as a trainer.

In recent weeks there have also been reports that backstage figures Kevin Sullivan, Rafael Morfi, and Dana Massie — the wife of Matt Jackson, have also left AEW.
