There is some backstage news about who came up with the AEW World Title storyline involving the company’s “four pillars” at Double or Nothing.

The four pillars of AEW are the current World Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF), “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry, Sammy Guevara and Darby Allin. All four men weren’t on national television before AEW launched in 2019, but as four guys in their mid-20s, they all had tremendous potential when the company launched and were considered foundational pieces for the company.

For the past two months, All Elite Wrestling has been building up the main event of Double or Nothing, which takes place this Sunday, May 28th. While they could have just said MJF was defending the AEW World Title in a four-way match, it took several weeks to get there.

There was a mini-tournament involving Darby Allin, “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry and Sammy Guevera to see who would earn the title shot against MJF. After some sketchy match results, a tag team took place on May 3rd that saw Allin & Perry beat Sammy & MJF to make it a four-way match for the AEW World Title.

It has been reported by Cassidy Haynes of bodyslam.net that the “creative person responsible for writing the storyline for the entire ‘Four Pillars’ World Championship program” is the All Elite Wrestling World Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman.

On the May 24th edition of AEW Dynamite, Jack Perry & Sammy Guevara were featured in pre-tape promos talking about the match. MJF also did an in-ring promo where he talked about being bored in AEW and teased leaving the company when he’s a free agent next year, which MJF has teased many times in the past.

Darby Allin interrupted, talked about how he was going to be World Champion and MJF hit him with a low blow kick. Sammy ran down to the ring, MJF retreatest and Perry was there with a clothesline. Perry was left holding the AEW World Title to end the scene.
