Why Hall Of Famer Believes There’s “Magic To Be Made” With Sami Zayn As WWE Champion
A Hall of Famer wants to see Sami Zayn given a fair shot as the WWE Champion.
Sami Zayn pulled off a miracle at WWE Night of Champions when he pinned Cody Rhodes in a triple threat match, also involving Gunther, to become the WWE Champion.
The “miracle” word was used by WWE announcer Michael Cole because it was well-publicized that Zayn had tried and failed to win the WWE Championship ten times over the last decade.
Going into Night of Champions, it’s fair to say that Zayn wasn’t the favorite to win, but he found a way to counter a Cross Rhodes by Rhodes and sat on top for the pinfall, while holding onto Cody’s legs for the clean pin.
On WWE SmackDown on July 3rd, Cody Rhodes beat Jey Uso in a number one contender’s match to determine Zayn’s next challenger. That match will take place tonight, July 6th, on Raw in Chicago.
When Sami Zayn complained about it to Raw GM Adam Pearce, who is also running SmackDown while Nick Aldis was sent home for an altercation with Gunther, he got no sympathy from Pearce.
Keep in mind that Liv Morgan hasn’t defended the Women’s World Title once on television since winning it at WrestleMania 42 in late April (nearly 3 months ago), yet Zayn already has to defend the championship against the former champion on a show that Zayn isn’t usually on.
AJ Styles Wants Sami Zayn To Have A Chance As WWE Champion
Many people predict Cody Rhodes could beat Sami Zayn for the Undisputed WWE Title on Raw, allowing WWE to book the rumored Cody Rhodes-CM Punk match at SummerSlam.
The recently retired WWE Hall of Famer AJ Styles spoke about Zayn as WWE Champion on his Phenomenal 1 podcast, and Styles made it clear he wants Zayn to have a good run as WWE Champion, instead of being a transitional champion.
“I hate to think that this was something that is gonna be a flip-flop. We don’t necessarily do that. It’s not good for business. But what’s the next step? I’m not really sure, which makes it very interesting.
I don’t want to see a transitional champion. I think that Sami’s more than capable of pulling off being a World Champion and totally being the underdog here.
You got people worried that Sami’s just going to be a transitional champion. He’s gonna win just to lose it to who knows? I don’t think that is the best way to go about doing the storyline. I think there’s some magic to be made.” (H/T Wrestlingnewsco)

It’s also expected that CM Punk will return on Raw in his hometown of Chicago, but it’s meant to be a surprise and not something WWE will advertise.
