New Tag Team Champions Crowned On AEW Collision

There was a surprising title change on AEW Collision as new Tag Team Champions were crowned.

The opening match on Saturday night’s episode of AEW Collision in Salt Lake City, Utah saw FTR’s Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler defend the AEW Tag Team Titles against the team of Ricky Starks & Big Bill.

It was a match where most fans likely assumed that FTR would retain their titles, but that didn’t happen. Wheeler went into the match with heavily taped ribs on the left side. Bill caused him more pain by giving Wheeler a Chokeslam through the commentary table.

Since Wheeler was taken out of the match, Big Bill went on to dominate Harwood. Bill hit Harwood with three Chokeslams in a row after Starks told him to keep on doing it. Starks tagged in while Bill held Harwood and Starks ran the ropes leading to a Spear. Starks pinned Harwood to win the AEW Tag Team Titles.

The match lasted about five minutes. That’s all it took to beat FTR, who are a team that has had hour-long tag team matches in the past.

As of this writing, it’s not yet known if there was a legitimate injury to FTR’s Harwood or Wheeler that caused the title change.

The Young Bucks earned AEW Tag Team Title match

What was very interesting about the title change is that The Young Bucks recently earned an AEW Tag Team Title match any time they want it by winning a four-team match at the WrestleDream PPV last week.

It was assumed at that time that The Young Bucks were likely going to get their title shot against their rivals FTR at the Full Gear pay-per-view in Los Angeles (near where the Young Bucks live). However, now that FTR lost the Tag Team Titles, that’s off the table.

The AEW Tag Team Title win is the first championship that Big Bill has won in the company. Starks is a former FTW Champion and also won the Owen Hart Cup this year, but this title win is Ricky’s first AEW championship win.
