Adam Copeland Gives Honest Response to John Cena’s Tribute
John Cena faced Logan Paul at WWE Clash in Paris on August 31, 2025, held at the Paris La Défense Arena in France as part of his retirement tour. He won the match after hitting Paul with his signature Attitude Adjustment move to pick up the win.
During the match, Cena paid tribute to his longtime rival Adam Copeland (Edge) by borrowing Copeland’s signature taunt and then setting up for a spear, a move synonymous with Copeland’s wrestling career.
Adam Copeland Looks Back Fondly on His Rivalry With John Cena
Speaking to The Score days ahead of the AEW All Out pay-per-view in Toronto, Copeland shared his reaction to Cena’s tribute to him at Clash in Paris. This is what he said:
“I saw a clip a couple of days ago where he did the whole [spear] setup and everything… It’s super fun. Yeah, it’s just fun. I think for John and I, we’re two guys that met each other at the right time. He needed a bad guy, and I needed a good guy. It just clicked. You never know when something is going to click.”
“I remember with Eddie and I, the first time we wrestled, and it was like, ‘huh.’ It was okay, right? But it should’ve been more than that. And then the next one was a little bit more, and then finally by our third match we were like, okay. There it is.”
“With John and I from day one, it just clicked. And I think it was, our characters were polar opposites. I knew what the assignment was, and so did he. I think you had two guys that were very willing to do what we had to do to get us both over.”
And John was already well on his way, but I feel like our angle is what really put the stamp on him being the top guy, and it put the stamp on me being a main event guy. I’ll always look back at that one fondly and and what we were able to do and and the fun we had.”
John Cena and Adam Copeland shared one of WWE’s most famous rivalries throughout the mid-2000s. Their feud featured classic encounters, such as a legendary TLC match in Toronto, and helped define both men’s careers. Cena was the perfect face to Copeland’s villain, and their chemistry led to unforgettable moments that cemented their places as top WWE superstars.
The WWE Universe was hopeful they’d get to see the two legends face each other one last time, but it is unlikely to happen as Edge works for the rival company, AEW. However, WWE analyst Sam Roberts believes that Cena versus Copeland could happen at WrestleMania 43 somehow.
