4-Time WWE Champion’s Sudden Disappearance Finally Explained
The reason behind a 4-time WWE Champion’s disappearance has finally been revealed.
Before disappearing from TV in July last year, Tony D’Angelo was involved in the final act to determine the fate of The D’Angelo Family.
After being betrayed by Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo at NXT Stand & Deliver, he found himself in the crosshairs with another former member, Luca Crusifino.
With Adriana Rizzo mediating discussions between them, a 3-way match was set for the July 15 taping of NXT, featuring D’Angelo, Stacks, and Crusifino.
In a fast-paced and hard-hitting battle, D’Angelo emerged victorious, thus disbanding the faction.
Over a month later, he was seen in a brief segment, still in his Italian mafia persona, when he was approached and confronted by a shadowy figure.
D’Angelo was not seen in WWE for the next five months.
Tony D’Angelo Finally Reveals The Reason Behind His WWE Disappearance
Tony D’Angelo’s disappearance from WWE sparked an array of discussions among fans, ranging from a main roster call-up to legitimate injury and everything in between.
While speaking on a recent episode of the No-Contest Wrestling podcast, the 30-year-old wrestler addressed his time away from the company, revealing that he just took a step back to reset.
No injury. It was just a bit of a reset. I will say I did have a couple of personal things that came up unexpectedly. But honestly, things happen the way they’re supposed to.
So it was good, I got a reset, I kinda got a different perspective on life and work. In that time my wife got pregnant.
He revealed that stepping away from his wrestling role temporarily helped him reconnect with the important things in life.
So it just… you get in this bubble and you’re just so, ‘Lift, work, eat, film,’ you’re just doing that for so long, you kinda forget why you got into this, or there’s life outside of this. [H/T: Ringside News]
So sometimes you need a little reset, and I’m pretty thankful that I got that opportunity, and now I am what you see on TV. I have a whole new perspective and outlook on what I need to do to achieve my goals and take care of my family.
Since returning to WWE in December 2025, D’Angelo has retired his ‘Don’ persona, taking on a role similar to that of an anti-hero.
He is scheduled to challenge for the NXT Championship at Stand & Deliver on April 4 in a 4-way match against Ricky Saints, Ethan Page, and champion Joe Hendry.
