3-Time Champion Returns To WWE, Immediately Helps Rey Mysterio
Rey Mysterio found himself at a disadvantage on WWE Raw, prompting a returning former champion to save him.
Mysterio made his first appearance on Raw since being named the AAA Lucha Libre general manager. While speaking to the brand’s GM, Adam Pearce, backstage, they were interrupted by “All Ego” Ethan Page.
Page was critical of Je’Von Evans receiving an Intercontinental Championship match against Penta while he received no commendation for pinning the masked luchador a couple of weeks ago.
Page also learnt that Mysterio was being awarded an IC title match, leading him to ask what the WWE Hall of Famer had done to receive the title shot.
This is when Rusev joined the discussion, and Page flipped the script, telling the Bulgarian Lion that he was demanding a title match for Rusev, but Pearce was giving it to Mysterio.
So, Rusev challenged Mysterio for a singles match, with the winner getting a championship match against Penta.
Rey Mysterio Defeats Rusev On WWE Raw
Rey Mysterio went into his singles match against Rusev on WWE Raw with a size disadvantage. Meanwhile, Ethan Page was also present on commentary, forcing the Hall of Famer to constantly look over his shoulder.
Despite the odds being stacked against him, Rey managed to inflict a decent amount of offense, although Rusev controlled most of the bout, as expected.
Mysterio even unsuccessfully attempted multiple 619s before getting one on Rusev’s ribs. In the closing minutes, the 51-year-old’s experience proved advantageous, as he pinned Rusev after rolling him up for a pinfall.
After the match, a livid Rusev then attacked Mysterio in the corner of the ring, resulting in Dragon Lee coming to his aid. Lee’s last appearance was at WrestleMania 42, where he was part of the six-man ladder match for the Intercontinental Championship.
Reports claimed that Lee was pretty banged up after the match, and he was given time off to recuperate.
Lee ran to the ring and prevented potential damage to Mysterio. This led to Ethan Page entering the ring, only to be neutralized by Lee, who is a former 3-time champion.
Dragon Lee and Rey Mysterio have previously teamed up together as part of the Latino World Order faction on SmackDown, which was revived in 2023.
Seth Rollins Finds An Ally On Raw
Like Rey Mysterio, Seth Rollins too find an ally on WWE Raw.
On Monday, The Visionary faced Montez Ford, following weeks of tension between the duo. Ford’s Streets Profit teammate, Angelo Dawkins, was not by the ringside.
In a bout that was evenly matched, Rollins managed to find a window, allowing him to dispose of his opponent with his Stomp finisher.
After the match, The Vision’s Austin Theory attacked Dawkins with a steel chair by the entrance.
In a backstage segment shortly afterward, both Montez Ford and Seth Rollins seemingly formed an alliance to take on The Vision, which also has Bron Breakker and Logan Paul as members.
Elsewhere, Logan Paul was recently reported to have injured himself. On Raw, it was confirmed that the 31-year-old would miss months of WWE action as a result.
