WWE legend Rey Mysterio has recently been appointed as the new General Manager of Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide.

Despite being 51 years old, the Master of 619 is still active in the wrestling world. His last match took place on the April 27, 2026 edition of Monday Night Raw, where he defeated El Grande Americano in a singles match.

Mysterio was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2023, and now, he has been appointed as the new General Manager of Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. AAA Worldwide president Marisela Peña made this historic decision public on the May 23, 2026, edition of AAA TV on Saturday. The grand announcement was featured in the opening segment.

CEO and Director of Operations Dorian Roldan thought that his mother would make him the new General Manager. However, his expectations were crushed when Marisela Peña introduced Rey Mysterio as the new General Manager after hyping him up in front of the jam-packed crowd.

Rey then took the microphone and addressed the crowd, noting that it was a full-circle moment for him. He stated that AAA was the place where he kicked off his pro wrestling career years ago, and now he has returned home as the new General Manager. He expressed gratitude to fans for their love and support and promised to work hard to elevate the company.

Dorian Roldan was not the only one who was disappointed by the announcement. Rey Mysterio’s son, Dominik Mysterio, the AAA Mega Champion, was seen backstage throwing a fit after finding out that his “deadbeat dad” is the new GM of AAA.

Now that Rey Mysterio is the new GM of AAA, he has officially stepped away from the commentary headset. WWE legend and Puerto Rican icon Savio Vega replaced him to join Corey Graves and JBL on the commentary table on the show.
