New United States Champion Crowned At SummerSlam

Damian Priest

Damian Priest has been crowned the new United States Champion after battling past Sheamus at SummerSlam.

The match swung back and forth but after surviving more than one seriously close near fall, Priest pulled out the win.

Early on in the match Priest appeared to hand the momentum straight to Sheamus, landing heavily after a dive to the outside. With Sheamus firmly in the ascendency, the Irish Superstar began to slowly wear down the challenger. However, Priest simply wouldn’t quit.

Fighting out of a submission, Priest ripped off Sheamus’ mask and began pounding on the champion. After the pair returned to their feet, the former NXT star threw Sheamus into the corner. It proved to be the beginning of the end of the former World Champion as he walked straight into the Reckoning which earned Priest the win.

The Archer of Infamy signed with NXT in late 2018, going on to win the North American Championship. Following his defeat to Kross at NXT New Year’s Evil, the Puerto Rican star put on strong showing in the 2021 Royal Rumble Match.

After moving to RAW, Priest joined forces with Hip Hop star Bad Bunny clashing with The Miz and John Morrison. The Puerto Rican team went on to defeat Miz and Morrison at WrestleMania 37.

In recent months, Priest has continued his feud with the pair while also setting out to claim his first piece of main roster gold. The former NXT star launched himself to the head of the queue for a shot at Sheamus’ United States Championship after pinning the Irishman on July 26th.

Meanwhile, Sheamus was also victorious at WrestleMania 37 winning the United States Title from Riddle. However, he only defended his prized championship on one occasion before being vanquished by Priest.
