Ronda Rousey Brutally Addresses Bruce Prichard & His Role In WWE

Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey is holding nothing back as she gives her honest assessment of WWE executive Bruce Prichard.

Ronda Rousey left WWE after SummerSlam 2023 where she had her final match against her long-time friend Shayna Baszler. Since then, Rousey has been less than complimentary about the company and some of those at the top of it during her time there.

Ronda Rousey already claimed Bruce Prichard is Vince McMahon’s avatar and suggested that as long as Prichard is working in the company then McMahon will have a voice despite being forced to resign.

Writing in her new book Our Fight – released on April 4th and now available for pre-order – Ronda Rousey lifted the lid on her experiences in WWE and it’s safe to say she has nothing good to say about Bruce Prichard. Rousey explained how the “he said/she said” world of WWE led to one star being upset thinking nobody wanted to work with them and she holds Prichard responsible:

A few weeks later, I was rehearsing in the ring with some of the other girls before doors opened to the fans, when Liv made a beeline to the ring from Gorilla. “Have you seen Aliyah?” she asked. We shook our heads. Aliyah had come up to SmackDown the year before. She had been partnered with Raquel Rodriguez and they’d briefly held the tag team titles, but then Aliyah was sidelined with a shoulder injury. “I just ran into her, almost hysterically crying,” she explained. “She was asking if it’s true that none of the talent wants to work with her.” We exchanged confused looks.

[…] “Why would she think that?” I asked. “They wanted her to come back from her shoulder injury right away, but she said she needed more time. That’s when Bruce Prichard told her that all the producers were trying to bury her and no one wanted to work with her. She was really upset.”

I felt my jaw and fists clench at the mere mention of his name. Bruce Prichard was another Vince McMahon crony. If “What did you say you do here?” was a person, it would be him. No one knew what exactly his job was or how he got it. He was the type of guy who carries a briefcase just so it looks like he’s doing something, yet somehow, he’d wormed his way up to executive producer, handpicked by Vince because he knew Bruce was the kind of guy you could control from a distance through an earpiece.

Ronda Rousey No Fan Of Bruce Prichard

With tempers flaring, Ronda Rousey and some of the other women in the company approached Prichard directly about the situation and suggested he wanted no part of their conversation:

“Why would anyone say that about Aliyah?” Bayley asked. “Everyone loves her.” Bruce Prichard was loitering behind one of the announcer tables. “Let’s go f*cking tell him right now,” I said. I stepped between the ropes and out of the ring. Liv scrambled to catch up with me. Bayley followed. “You’re comin’ in real hot,” Liv said, with a nervous nasal laugh. “Just let me talk first, ’kay?” “OK,” I said. I took a step back, letting her take the lead.

[…] “Hi, yes, hello sir,” she said hesitantly. “Is it OK if we talk to you about something for a second?” He looked up at us with the expression of a man who was annoyed to be interrupted by a bunch of chicks until he saw my even more bothered expression. He pivoted to a forced smile. “Sure.” “Sooo …” Liv started sweetly, cocking her head to one side.

She spoke with the accent of a Jersey girl and the cadence of a Valley girl. “Well, we just want to, like, tell you that we heard something and we don’t know who’s talking, but we really love Aliyah. And we don’t know who’s speaking for us or anything like that, but any complaints about her are not coming from any of us. We love her. We love working with her, and she’s the best.”

I stood behind Liv, my arms crossed like an enforcer. Bruce’s strained grin held. He had the air of a failed used-car salesman. I cleared my throat to send a message, not because I needed to cough. “And I would really appreciate it if you weren’t taking other people’s word at face value and speaking for us,” I said, slowly. “In fact, I would appreciate it if you didn’t talk to anyone about what we said unless we said it to you. You have a question about that, you talk to us.”

He nodded too enthusiastically. “I love Aliyah,” he almost shouted. “She’s great. Yeah, I have no idea where that came from.” He looked around as if he was actually looking for someone to pin the blame on. The other girls and I exchanged Can you believe this guy? looks. “I’ll talk to her,” he said, as if to say it was all a misunderstanding. I nodded, lingering just a little bit longer than the other ladies once they turned to leave. I’d make sure to give Aliyah a hug next time I saw her, I thought to myself. But I never saw Aliyah again.

After that night, she all but disappeared, as if she vanished into thin air, even long after her shoulder had healed. It sent a clear message. In the organization’s eyes, talent was disposable.

Aliyah was ultimately released by WWE in September 2023 along with a host of other stars such as Dolph Ziggler, Mustafa Ali, and Matt Riddle. However, her last match in the company came a whole year earlier when she and Raquel Rodriguez lost the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship to Dakota Kai and IYO SKY on Raw.

Ronda Rousey expressed her disgust at the “casting couch culture” in WWE as she saved some of her wrath for former chairman Vince McMahon as well.
