WWE WrestleMania 36 News: Goldberg vs. Roman Reigns, John Cena vs. “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt Are Official

There were two WrestleMania matches that were made official on Smackdown this week. WrestleMania takes place on April 5th while WWE also has the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view coming up soon on March 8th.

During the opening segment on Smackdown, Goldberg was in the ring with the Universal Championship as the fans booed him and he uttered his catchphrase: “Who’s next?” That led to Roman Reigns going out to the ring, taking his time getting there and then looking Goldberg in the eye to say: “I’m next.” Shortly after that, WWE made it official.

You may recall that on February 11 we posted about WWE having a men’s Elimination Chamber match on March 8th. Sheamus even did a promo about it two weeks ago. That’s not happening now. WWE made the decision to just give Reigns the title match instead of doing a number one contender’s Chamber match.

The other WrestleMania match that was made official on Smackdown is John Cena vs. “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt. Cena did a promo saying WrestleMania can go on without him this year. After the promo, when Cena stood at the top of the ramp, “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt stood behind him. The Fiend pointed at the giant WrestleMania sign in the arena, Cena nodded his head at him and tipped his cap at him as if to say he accepted the challenge. That match was made official as well.

Cena beat Wyatt in a match at WrestleMania 30 six years ago, so Wyatt will be looking to avenge that loss.

Both of these matches were reported by the Wrestling Observer about a day before Super Showdown, which we covered here. The original plan was to do Wyatt defending the Universal Title against Reigns while Goldberg wasn’t going to have a match. Cena was apparently scheduled to face Elias, which didn’t make sense since Elias is in a face role. All of this changed within the last week with Vince McMahon making the final decision as usual.

There are four official WrestleMania matches right now.

Universal Championship: Goldberg (c) vs. Roman Reigns

WWE Championship: Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Drew McIntyre

John Cena vs. “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt

NXT Women’s Championship: Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Charlotte Flair

We also know that Becky Lynch will defend the Raw Women’s Title against the Elimination Chamber match winner. That’s likely going to be Shayna Baszler. Edge vs. Randy Orton is another obvious match and so is AJ Styles vs. The Undertaker.

There are expected to be about 16 matches on the WrestleMania card.

TJR Thoughts: I think Reigns and Wyatt should win these matches. If they don’t, I would be very surprised.
