WWE News: Women’s Triple Threat Match on Raw, Samoa Joe on Commentary

TJR Wrestling

This is one of those weeks where WWE has decided to not advertise that much heading into Raw, but we do know a few things.

* The WWE Champion Drew McIntyre will be having a contract signing on Raw tonight with Seth Rollins. It’s a way to set up their WWE Title match at Money in the Bank on May 10.

* There will be a triple threat match on Raw tonight with the following participants: Asuka vs. Nia Jax vs. Shayna Baszler.

All three women are a part of the Women’s Money in the Bank contract ladder match at Money in the Bank on 10.

* Samoa Joe is back on Raw as part of the commentary team according to Pro Wrestling Sheet’s Ryan Satin. The report notes that WWE is filming two episodes of Raw today for tonight’s show and for next week due to WWE wanting to cut down on travel for their superstars and employees. Joe is at the tapings although it’s not known right now if he is on commentary for both weeks of Raw or just one episode.

Joe has been out of action for a few months after a 30-day suspension for violating the WWE Wellness Policy and suffering a concussion while taping a WWE commercial. There were reports that Joe was not cleared to return to the ring yet, but it’s not known if his status has changed.

Joe has done commentary work on Raw in late 2019 when he was dealing with an injury to his hand and he got a lot of praise for it.

It has also not been specified if Joe is a fourth member of the Raw commentary or if he’s replacing Byron Saxton or Jerry Lawler. Tom Phillips will likely remain as the play by play man. We should know more tonight during Raw, obviously.

TJR Thoughts: I don’t want to speculate on the length of Joe’s future because he has had a lot of concussions in his career. I hope he can return to the ring one day, but it’s smart for him and WWE to take their time on this because there’s no rush to return especially when there are no fans in the building.
