According to The Young Bucks, Matt and Nick Jackson, the current Number One contender for the AEW World Championship, ‘Hangman’ Adam Page, is “the future of AEW”.

Speaking to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Nick Jackson revealed that he knew Adam Page was special as far back as their NJPW days.

“I knew he was special when we specifically told [New Japan Pro-Wrestling referee and executive] Tiger Hattori that he needed to join the Bullet Club. He just needed the push to get to where he is now.”

Matt Jackson added that it’s been fun for him to “live Hangman’s journey in real-time” from shy kid to wrestling megastar.

“He was just a shy, introverted kid who wore a baseball cap when I met him. Now he’s a megastar. Maybe the most over guy in a company full of world-class wrestlers.”

Nick went on to say that he sees Page as the future of the promotion, and his upcoming title match against Kenny Omega is “box office” because of how compelling his character has become.

“There’s no doubt that Hangman is the future of AEW. He is arguably the most over guy in our company and I feel like his backstory is very relatable to the fans, which makes his character so compelling. Him and Kenny Omega is box office.”

The Young Bucks and Page first got together in 2016 when Page joined Bullet Club and then was part of its sub-group, “The Elite” alongside the Bucks, Kenny Omega, and Cody Rhodes. The group eventually left NJPW and Cody and the Bucks were driving forces behind the formation of AEW in 2019. Page himself, while not an EVP like his Elite stablemates, is now an integral part of the promotion as one of its biggest fan favourites.

After a three-month break following the birth of his first child, Page made a triumphant return to AEW on the October 6th edition of Dynamite. He was the surprise entrant in a Number One Contendership Casino Ladder Match and went on to win the bout to secure his place in the main event of Full Gear.

He will face off against his former friend and tag team partner, Kenny Omega at Full Gear on November 13th with the AEW World Championship on the line.
