Amid the war in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia’s future as a host for WWE events became a talking point.

In January, the Kingdom hosted the Royal Rumble for the first time since its premiere in 1988. There were reports that the country would be hosting two more PLEs, but the chances of that happening became bleak due to the severity of the situation.

In fact, the higher-ups in the Stamford promotion even held meetings to potentially reconsider the decision for the time being. During the meetings, Saudi Arabia’s WrestleMania 43 hosting rights were also discussed, according to Wrestling Observer.

In a surprising turn of events, WWE’s MENA account on X revealed that Saudi Arabia would be hosting Night of Champions on June 27.

While speaking on The Coach & Bro podcast, Jonathan Coachman sounded surprised at first. He then revealed reaching out to his source, who informed him how the company broke the news to its talents, which also disclosed potential plans for the Night of Champions PLE.

So, I reached out to my contact, and I said, “Is this voluntary?” Because it’s called Night of Champions. So, if you’re a champion, I would assume they expect you to go. And the message I got back was they said completely voluntary; it’s their choice, and it’s gonna be limited to just the people that are on the show.

Despite revealing the voluntary nature of WWE Night of Champions, ‘Coach’ sounded sceptical, believing that there would be repercussions for title holders who refuse to go to Saudi Arabia.

Do you really believe, cuz you know my story. I went through it, and I got my a** beat when I said I ain’t going to Afghanistan. Do you really think in 2026 and you’re a champion, they’re going, “Hey, you don’t have to go if you don’t want to?” We know that d*mn game. [56:37 onward]

Injured WWE Hall Of Famer Aims Return At Night Of Champions

Before heading to Saudi Arabia, WWE will host two other PLEs—Backlash (May 9) and Clash in Italy (May 31).

This gives the creative team enough time to build a strong card for Night of Champions. Elsewhere, an injured superstar is hoping to take this time to focus on their recovery process.

Nikki Bella sustained an injury last month during a SmackDown episode and has been out of action ever since. It also led to her missing WrestleMania 42, where her twin Brie Bella won the Women’s Tag Team Championship with the returning superstar Paige.

Speaking on the Nikki & Brie podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer claimed that it would take her 6-8 weeks more to get better and potentially return at Night of Champions.

Hopefully I will get to see you all in June. They just announced Night of Champions is going to be happening in June, so fingers crossed that still goes. But obviously, I’d love to see you all there.
