A WrestleMania tradition has taken place at Axxess for the last few years with WWE unveiling statues for one legend every year at WrestleMania. This year, WWE revealed a new statue for the late, great Hall of Famer “Rowdy” Roddy Piper.

Piper’s family was at the statue unveiling along with several legendary wrestlers including Ricky Steamboat, Sting, Jimmy Hart, Brutus Beefcake and more.

It’s a nice tribute for the man that is considered one of the best heels in the history of WWE. At WrestleMania, Piper was in the main event when he teamed up with Paul Orndorff to take on the team of WWF Champion Hulk Hogan and actor Mr. T. Without Piper, that match wouldn’t have been as big of a deal because he was the instigator that riled up the fans and made the people want to see Hogan/T beat him up.

Piper was not a guy that won many titles in WWE because apparently, he didn’t want them. There are a lot of stories about him not wanting to be booked to win titles because he liked doing his own thing. In 1992 at the Royal Rumble he beat The Mountie for the Intercontinental Title and that was a huge moment for him.

Piper was inducted into WWE’s Hall of Fame in 2005. He passed away in 2015 at age 61.

The previous statues that WWE has unveiled were of Andre The Giant, The Ultimate Warrior, Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair and Bruno Sammartino.
