WWE Stars React To Swerve Strickland’s AEW World Title Win

Swerve Strickland AEW Prince Nana

Swerve Strickland is the new AEW World Champion and some of his friends from WWE have reacted to it on social media.

At the first-ever AEW Dynasty pay-per-view in St. Louis, Swerve Strickland found himself in the main event of the show against the AEW World Champion Samoa Joe. It was the second straight AEW PPV where Swerve received a World Title match, but this time it wasn’t a triple threat match with “Hangman” Adam Page involved.

The battle between Swerve and Joe was an intense one with both men hitting big moves throughout the match. The finish saw Swerve leap off the top rope with the Swerve Stomp to Joe’s chest and that led to the pinfall win in front of a vocal St. Louis crowd that was happy to see Swerve get the win.

It was a historic win since Swerve became the first African-American World Champion in AEW’s five-year history. Swerve also became the eighth man to be AEW World Champion joining Chris Jericho, Jon Moxley, Kenny Omega, “Hangman” Adam Page, CM Punk, Maxwell Jacob Friedman, and Samoa Joe.

WWE Superstars Support Swerve Strickland As AEW World Champion

Before debuting in AEW two years ago in March 2022, Swerve Strickland was known as Isaiah “Swerve” Scott in WWE. He was a solo act for a few years before forming the Hit Row group. After two and a half years in WWE, Swerve was released in November 2021.

Despite no longer being in WWE, he obviously still has a lot of friends there. Kofi Kingston was among the WWE stars who commented on it with a tweet early on Sunday morning simply posting Swerve’s name in all caps. Others like Cedric Alexander and Joe Gacy commented on Swerve’s big win as well.

During the post-AEW Dynasty press conference, Swerve mentioned Kofi Kingston’s WWE Title win from five years ago as an inspirational moment for him.
