WWE Star Unmasked At AAA Noche De Los Grandes
A WWE superstar was finally unmasked during a huge Mask vs. Mask match at AAA’s Noche de Los Grandes event.
El Grande Americano debuted in March 2025, when Chad Gable began a storyline in which he planned to learn about lucha libre (Mexican wrestling) history.
It was a gimmick introduced in part because WWE acquired the Mexican promotion AAA in April 2025, as announced at WrestleMania 41. Over the last year, WWE has launched a weekly AAA television show run by the main booker, WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker, who has been praised heavily for the job he and his team have done.
The El Grande Americano character has been a big part of AAA television, but the Original version, portrayed by Gable, isn’t beloved by fans. After Gable sustained a shoulder injury in June 2025, Ludwig Kaiser took over the character. It was obvious right away, since Kaiser is much taller than Gable and less tanned.
Even though most WWE and AAA fans know the wrestlers under the masks of El Grande Americano and Original El Grande Americano, they have embraced the characters because of how well Kaiser and Gable have done in their roles.
The rivalry has also led to each man having allies since El Grande Americano has Rayo & Bravo (Pete Dunne & Tyler Bate) by his side, while Original El Grande Americano has The Creed Brothers (Julius & Brutus) using the names Julio Credo and Bruto Credo.
When Gable returned from his shoulder as Original El Grande Americano at the Royal Rumble, he confronted the “imposter” El Grande Americano. Their brief interaction in the Rumble was just the start of the rivalry that has been built up in AAA over the last four months. Things got so personal that it led to Mask vs. Mask in Mexico.
WWE’s Chad Gable Finally Unmasked At AAA Noche De Los Grandes
The Original/Grande Mask vs. Mask match took place in Monterrey, Mexico, and aired on FOX in Latin America and WWE’s YouTube and Facebook everywhere else.
In front of a hostile crowd in Monterrey, Kaiser/Grande was heavily favored by the fans while Original/Gable was hated.
There were a lot of nearfalls and near submissions throughout the match. Grande held up the Original and hit a running headbutt, so Original did a big bump. Grande covered Original to win the match. The fans absolutely loved it.

After the match, the Original El Grande Americano was a bloody mess. Original said he put on the mask so he could defeat the luchadores that he hated. The original said he learned everything he could about AAA, Mexico, and the Mexican culture. Original said that tonight, he could not overcome the Mexican spirit. Original said he will always be the Original El Grande Americano. Original said from now on, you are the only El Grande Americano.
The Original El Grande Americano took off his mask while his wife, two daughters and son were in the ring. Original revealed himself as Chad Gable, as we all knew. The fans cheered. Chad Gable said he was born March 8, 1986, in Minneapolis. There was blood pouring down his face as he spoke about how he’s wrestled for 13 years. Chad said this is his beautiful family, and the fans cheered. Gable said he doesn’t know when or how, but he said he will be back in AAA.
