WWE Star Teases Massive Heel Turn
A WWE star has just dropped a huge tease.
During his first WWE run, Matt Cardona wrestled under the ring name Zack Ryder. He started off in a tag team with Curt Hawkins known as The Edgeheads. They would help Edge during his matches.
When Cardona broke out on a singles run, he became one of the most popular acts in the company due to his YouTube channel at the time. Despite his rising popularity, Cardona was never pushed into the spotlight in WWE and always remained a mid-card talent. In fact, he would often have to job to bigger stars. After he left the Stamford-based promotion, Cardona reinvented himself on the independent scene and established himself as the Indy God. He became so undeniable that WWE re-signed him earlier this year. However, he has yet to receive the push that he has been craving.
WWE star Matt Cardona teases a heel turn
During a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Cardona was asked about a possible heel run in WWE. Cardona didn’t rule out the possibility, stating that the person he is now is not the same person he was on the Indies, and he feels the sports entertainment juggernaut needs to see that side of him.
“Not maybe, definitely, because I’ve said, and I said it on TV too, like ‘I left and I reinvented myself, blah blah blah’ but who you see right now is not who I was on the indies like the heel Ultimate Opportunist, no redeeming qualities, Matt Cardona. That’s what I feel WWE needs to see from me.
I’m not exactly sure how we’re gonna get there but I’m always ready. And I’m in the game. So if the opportunity presents itself, I will capitalize.”
Cardona also added that this is the closest he’s felt to the WWE Championship. He also said that he told Triple H before signing with WWE that he can’t win the Title if he is not in the company. He admitted that he may lose a lot of matches, but when he wins, he makes it count.
“I feel like I’m the closest I’ve ever been, especially now being back in WWE. I certainly felt on the indies that I was closer to being the WWE champion as Matt Cardona on the Indies than I ever was as Zack Ryder previously.
This is what I said to Triple H. I said before I got re-signed, ‘I can’t hit a home run if I’m not in the game.’ You know what I’m saying? And I honestly believe that.
You look at my win-loss record, okay, I lose a lot, but when I win, I win big. It just takes one win, and I’ve been counted out so many times throughout my career by the office, by the fans, by myself, and I just always come back.
I always find a way to come back. I’m like a cockroach, you cannot kill me.” [H/T F4WOnline]
It remains to be seen if Matt Cardona will ever be able to win the WWE Championship.
