NXT star Wes Lee will be gone from WWE for up to a year after announcing he needs surgery for a serious injury.

Wes Lee was set to be part of the NXT North American Championship match at Deadline where he’d challenge Dominik Mysterio for the gold but that now won’t be happening.

Lee appeared on NXT, walking to the ring with a crutch before announcing that he’s out of action with a back injury and required surgery. Vic Joseph on commentary noted that Wes Lee is expected to be out for 8-12 months as a result.

Wes Lee Replaced In WWE NXT Title Match

Dominik Mysterio soon confronted Lee to celebrate having the night off for Deadline now but that idea was short-lived. Lee told the champion he’d still be defending his title and as it happens the name on the contract does say Lee, but it reads Dragon Lee.

Rey Mysterio appeared on the video screen to announce he’ll be in the corner of his son’s new challenger Dragon Lee at Deadline. Dragon Lee then ran to the ring and chased Dominik Mysterio away.

Wes Lee only returned to NXT television at the end of October after several weeks away after walking out of the brand following a loss to Ilja Dragunov.

Rey Mysterio has been out of action following an attack by Santos Escobar which wrote him off TV so he could undergo knee surgery.
