WWE Star Blasts Dave Meltzer Over Star Rating Of Recent Match

Dave Meltzer

WWE Superstar Joe Coffey has hit out at a recent match rating handed out by prominent wrestling journalist, Dave Meltzer.

Having first started critiquing bouts in 1982, the veteran Wrestling Observer scribe has often drawn controversy for his star-rating system for bouts, with countless Superstars reacting to lower ratings by questioning the 64 year-old’s credibility, citing his own lack of in-ring experience as a reason to discount Meltzer’s opinion.

The likes of Eric Bischoff, Jim Cornette and Charlotte Flair have dismissed the importance of Meltzer’s ratings previously with another WWE Superstar recently adding his name to the list of those who disagree with scores awarded.

NXT Superstar Joe Coffey took to social media site ‘X’ to hit out at Meltzer after his triple threat bout with Wes Lee and Oba Femi at NXT Battleground for the North American Championship was awarded a disappointing 3.25 stars out of 5. Coffey strongly disagreed with the rating before noting he did not respect the journalists opinion:

“That’s because he doesn’t have a f**king clue what goes in to professional wrestling because he’s never laced up a pair (of boots).

Do you know the people’s opinions that I respect? The people when I go through the curtain who tell me if it’s good or bad. That’s who I respect.”

Given the ratings awarded in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it would appear that Meltzer was unimpressed with the NXT Premium Live Event, with no bout from the show reaching four-star status:
