WWE Slammed For Burying Drew McIntyre: “It’s Like A Toxic Girlfriend”

This Legend recently spoke out about WWE burying their own top champion.

Drew McIntyre is the Undisputed WWE Champion.

Despite a string of losses and near misses with the title, he finally reached the top of the mountain by defeating Cody Rhodes in a Three Stages of Hell match on SmackDown in January.

WWE was criticized for not letting McIntyre have a championship run, and now that they have made him champion, they’re seemingly burying him through their own wrestlers.

In a heated promo between Royal Rumble 2026 winner, Roman Reigns, and World Heavyweight Champion, CM Punk, on Raw a couple of weeks ago, Reigns chose to face Punk at WrestleMania 42 for the World Title, but the two stars put down Drew McIntyre and the SmackDown brand mid-promo.

McIntyre’s promo in response that followed was also questionable, as he is a top heel who was seen supporting the blue brand.

WWE Legend Bully Ray Slams Them For Burying Drew McIntyre

On Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray (aka Bubba Ray Dudley) said he didn’t think what was happening made any sense.

This didn’t make sense. I don’t know why you’re burying the other guy who’s your champion and the other brand. Now maybe, hopefully, they’ll come full circle and give us a reason. But in all my time, all I can say right now is to quote the great Jeff Spicoli, ‘I don’t know.’ I’m sorry to repeat myself a little bit. I don’t know why you go out of your way to bury Drew, the championship, and SmackDown.

Ray also questioned the McIntrye promo that was done in response, saying that this brand battle would have made sense had it been a buildup to Survivor Series. He compared the situation to that of having a toxic girlfriend.

I don’t know why you put a promo in the guy’s mouth that I liked, meanwhile, he just eliminated the biggest babyface in the company out of the Royal Rumble when he wasn’t even in the match. It’s like a toxic girlfriend. The only way it would have made sense to me in this point in time is if we were going into Survivor Series.

A declaration of war. ‘Don’t you dare speak about my brand and my roster the way you have. We’ll show you. We’re declaring war on you,’

Cody Rhodes, whom McIntyre has promised can never get another title shot, was screwed over at the Royal Rumble byThe Scottish Psychopath, who interfered to take Rhodes out with a Claymore.

His attempt to interfere in a triple threat match between Rhodes, Jacob Fatu, and Sami Zayn backfired, however, when Zayn attacked McIntyre with a Helluva kick, but Cody put down Zayn for the win, cementing his spot in the Elimination Chamber match. If he wins that, he gets another shot at McIntyre’s WWE Championship.
