WWE Scrapped Huge WrestleMania 42 Plans For Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns
Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns were supposed to be the main event for WrestleMania 42, but the plans were scrapped.
The American Nightmare and The OTC are big babyfaces in the company, but up until WrestleMania 41, Reigns was the heel. The duo main-evented two WrestleManias. Had they main-evented WrestleMania 42 as well, it would have been the third one in four years.
It was reported that Triple H scrapped the plans to avoid fan fatigue and give the main events a change of scenario.
Major stipulation was supposed to be added for Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns
While the match has been scrapped, the discussions around the match were heavy. It was almost a done deal before The Game pulled the plug on it.
According to Wrestling Observer, WWE was discussing a Hell in a Cell match for Rhodes vs. Reigns. WWE had previously decided that the stipulation would be used whenever necessary instead of having a premium live event around Hell in a Cell.
The decision was changed after Seth Rollins’ injury and the crowning of Drew McIntyre as the champion.
Sources in WWE revealed that a Hell in a Cell Match was heavily discussed for Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns at WrestleMania.
The decision to change everything came after the injury to Seth Rollins and the decision to put the WWE title on Drew McIntyre.
