WWE Reveals New Role For Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler After Announce Team Changes

TJR Wrestling

It was reported earlier that WWE announced a new set of three-person announce teams for both Raw and Smackdown heading into WWE’s “New Era” following last night’s Brand Extension Draft. Raw’s announce team will consist of Michael Cole, Corey Graves and Byron Saxton. Smackdown’s announce team will consist of Mauro Ranallo, John Bradshaw Layfield and David Otunga.

Although this announcement means Jerry “The King” Lawler won’t be on commentary anymore for the main shows, he will be doing commentary for the Pre-Shows and Kickoff Shows moving forward. WWE announced the following today after revealing Raw and Smackdown’s new announce teams.

“In addition to the commentary booth updates on Raw, SmackDown Live and more, WWE Hall of Famers Booker T and Jerry “The King” Lawler will bring their decades of experience in sports-entertainment to recurring Pre-Shows and Kickoffs as key analysts, among other names still to be announced. Stay with WWE.com for additional updates.”

Mark’s reaction: It’s nice to not have Lawler out of the picture entirely. Although I’ve thought for a while now that his time on commentary for Raw and Smackdown should come to an end, he’s still serviceable as an announcer and still clearly loves being a part of the show. Joining the Pre-Show and Kickoff Show commentary team is perfect for The King at this time in his career.
