WWE Planning Huge Match For Sami Zayn

Sami Zayn

Sami Zayn could be factored into big plans for WWE on the SmackDown brand.

There’s a huge match at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on January 24th in Montreal featuring four of the biggest SmackDown superstars.

At Saturday Night’s Main Event in Montreal, there will be a Fatal 4-Way Match between Randy Orton, Sami Zayn, Damian Priest, and Trick Williams, who is a newcomer to the blue brand.

All four men won qualifying matches to earn a spot in the SNME match in Montreal, Zayn’s hometown. While Orton and Priest are babyfaces like Zayn, it’s likely that the fans will favor Zayn more than anyone in the match.

The reward for winning the Fatal 4-Way Match is a shot at Drew McIntyre’s Undisputed WWE Championship on Saturday, January 31st in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Sami Zayn Could Be Getting WWE Championship Match

Fightful Select reports that there were tentative plans for Sami Zayn to receive a World Championship Match ahead of WrestleMania 42, which is on April 19-20 in Las Vegas.

According to the Fightful report, the “Royal Rumble was an event thrown our way as a possibility, before it being reiterated that it was likely before WrestleMania.” They added that they aren’t sure if WWE is sticking with that plan or if there will be a creative pivot.

It was added by Fightful that many people on WWE’s creative team wanted to push Sami Zayn into WWE or World Title contention since his 2025 storyline with Karrion Kross was about Kross doubting Zayn could be there.

Since Sami Zayn is from Montreal, which is where SNME takes place, and since Zayn speaks Arabic like the fans in Saudi Arabia, where he is beloved, there are many WWE fans who think Zayn could be the man to challenge McIntyre at the Royal Rumble.

In backstage segment on WWE SmackDown on January 16th, Drew McIntyre told Sami Zayn that he’s beaten Zayn 11 times and Zayn has beaten him 0 times, and nothing will change if they meet at the Royal Rumble. Zayn responded with a “We’ll see” to show that he’s ready if the match happens.

During his 10+ year WWE career, Sami Zayn has held the Intercontinental Title, US Title, Tag Team Titles, and even headlined WrestleMania, but he has yet to win the WWE Championship or World Heavyweight Championship, so it remains a huge goal of his.
