WWE Considering Multiple Options For WWE Title Match At WrestleMania 42
WrestleMania is only a few months away, and there are a few title match possibilities for the main event, as things stand.
The WWE creative team is reportedly working on a couple of ideas for the WWE title match at WrestleMania.
Drew McIntyre is the new WWE Champion. He defeated Cody Rhodes in a Three Stages of Hell match last week on SmackDown. There was interference from Jacob Fatu, who attacked both men because of which Drew found an opening and exited the steel cage of the third stage of hell to secure a 2-1 victory in the bout (McIntyre won the first and third stages of hell).
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter has come out with a report suggesting that there could be two major ideas for the main event: A three-way between Rhodes, McIntyre, and Fatu for the title or a direct match between Rhodes and McIntyre.
The observer stated that Rhodes could win the Elimination Chamber match or the Royal Rumble and get his title shot.
The two ideas for Mania at this point are a three-way for the title with Rhodes, Fatu and McIntyre, or just McIntyre vs. Rhodes.
The straight match is easier because there has to be a single winner at the Rumble and at the Chamber (for CM Punk or whoever the other champion is), so Rhodes winning the Chamber (could be Rumble but my gut is Chamber makes the most sense) would get him in.
There are always ways to get Fatu in if need be.
WrestleMania will be held in Las Vegas over two nights on the 18th and 19th of April 2026.
WWE Star Cody Rhodes Could Have A Character Shift After Title Loss
Drew McIntyre has been trying to send Cody over to the dark side with his antics throughout their months-long feud with The Scottish Psycopath, even burning a photo of Rhodes and his late father, WWE Legend Dusty Rhodes, a week before their title bout, attempting to push The American Nightmare over the edge.
This, combined with the title loss after an interference from Jacob Fatu, could very well signal a character shift for Rhodes.
Cory Hays of Bodyslam.net recently hinted at it by responding to one fan’s question on whether Rhodes would turn heel, saying that it won’t be a full-blown heel turn but a character shift.
