Jay Briscoe

WWE made the call on the 17th of January edition of NXT to scrap a planned segment following the announcement of the death of Jay Briscoe.

AEW and Ring of Honor owner Tony Khan broke the shocking news of Briscoe’s death on social media. Dave Meltzer followed up by stating that Briscoe appeared to have been killed in a car accident in Laurel, Delaware that claimed the life of another person and left two children hospitalised.

Briscoe’s death was acknowledged on NXT which aired live on the USA Network with commentator Vic Joseph paying tribute to the star while announcing his passing to the watching audience.

John Pollock of POST Wrestling noted on social media that a segment was cut from NXT following the tragedy. NXT Tag Team Champions The New Day, who appeared on the show wearing suits, were originally meant to host a funeral segment for Pretty Deadly’s title shot but that was abandoned in light of Briscoe’s death.

Many people from the world of professional wrestling have been paying tribute to the 38-year-old star. Briscoe was a thirteen-time and current ROH Tag Team Champion with his brother Mark, in addition to winning the ROH World Championship on two occasions.
