A Premium Live Event change has been announced by WWE with Night of Champions replacing the King & Queen of the Ring event.

World Wrestling Entertainment announced on social media that Night of Champions will replace King & Queen of the Ring on May 27th in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

“The May 27th Premium Live Event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia will now be WWE Night of Champions!”

It was first reported by PWInsider that WWE made “a creative choice to change the name, allowing WWE to revive the Night of Champions event for the first time in eight years.”

This is an interesting decision since the current WWE Tag Team Champions Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens don’t work the Saudi shows, so maybe they will have a short title reign or there will be some reason given why there’s not a Tag Team Title match.

The King & Queen of the Ring name was going to be used for May 27th in Saudi Arabia, but for whatever reason, they decided to call it Night of Champions.

Night of Champions is a show where every championship on the WWE main roster is supposed to be on the line. From 2007 to 2015 they ran the event for nine years straight, but then they stopped doing it after the 2015 event.

In 2016, WWE decided to bring back the classic NWA/WCW Clash of Champions name to run the event in 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2020.

At the Crown Jewel 2021 PLE in Saudi Arabia, Xavier Woods won the King of the Ring and Zelina Vega won the first-ever Queen’s Crown tournament.

WWE hasn’t run a King of the Ring pay-per-view since 2002. They did do a King of the Ring special in 2015 on WWE Network, but it wasn’t a full PPV event.

All of this means the upcoming WWE Premium Live Event schedule for the main roster looks like this:

* May 6 is Backlash @ Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

* May 27 is Night of Champions @ Jeddah Super Dome in Jeddah, Mecca Province, Saudi Arabia.

* July 1 is Money in the Bank @ The O2 Arena in London, England.

* August 5 is SummerSlam @ Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.
