WWE News: The Shield’s Final Chapter on WWE Network This Sunday, The Shield’s Opponents, Length of Broadcast, More

The final match in Dean Ambrose’s WWE career will take place this Sunday as he teams up with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins one more time…for the last time…until the next time…for now.

As we first reported on here back in late January, Ambrose turned down a contract from WWE and has decided to move on with his life. Whether that means he’s going to wrestle somewhere else or if it means he’ll stop wrestling completely, we don’t know. Maybe it is just a break for him and perhaps he’ll return to WWE later this year, next year or some other point down the line. Dean isn’t the kind of guy to talk a lot about this stuff publicly, so we really have no idea what his future is.

What we do know is that this is the last weekend of Dean’s WWE contract with Sunday, April 21 as the last day. With that in mind, WWE announced a WWE Network special featuring Ambrose’s last WWE match this Sunday night. Earlier in the week, it was billed as “The Shield’s Last Chapter” as you can see here and now it’s being billed as The Shield’s Final Chapter.

It’s going to be a house show match in Moline, Illinois, which is close to the home of Dean’s buddy, the WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins. Today, we found out who The Shield will be facing.

Here’s more info from WWE.com:

In what will be the groundbreaking faction’s FINAL match together, Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns & Universal Champion Seth Rollins will team up for a special event, The Shield’s Final Chapter, streaming LIVE this Sunday, April 21, at 9:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. PT on WWE Network. Don’t miss the legendary trio’s final ride together in WWE.

The Shield will face the team of Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley and Baron Corbin. Also, Finn Bálor will be in action to defend the Intercontinental Championship.

If The Shield loses that match, it would be a big surprise.

We also know by looking at the WWE schedule that The Shield’s Final Chapter is expected to run for 90 minutes until 11pmET/10pmCT. That makes me think there will be more than just The Shield vs. Corbin, Lashley and Corbin plus the IC Title match. There may be another match or two that they show. Then again, they could fill time with a post-match tribute to Ambrose by his buddies or something that helps us remember the good times from The Shield.

Balor is currently scheduled to face Elias at the WWE Raw brand live events this weekend, so it’s likely that it will be Balor vs. Elias on WWE Network. The Superstar Shake-up changes haven’t been official yet in terms of live events because Balor and Elias are now Smackdown guys.

There’s no word on who the announcers are for the broadcast yet. The announcers for the Starrcade 2018 one-hour broadcast were Tom Phillips and Byron Saxton in a studio. Since this is a Raw show, it could be Michael Cole, Corey Graves and Renee Young, who is Dean’s wife.

Seth Rollins commented on Twitter about how excited he is for The Shield’s farewell match. WWE is also promoting another Shield t-shirt. In the tweet, Rollins noted that this is really the end for a while because he, like all of us, doesn’t know if Ambrose will come back.

I expect to write a review of this WWE Network special “The Shield’s Final Chapter.” It might go up on Sunday night, but more likely on Monday morning.
