Cody Rhodes may see a big change in his WWE character soon.

The American Nightmare is one of the biggest babyfaces on the sports entertainment juggernaut’s roster. Despite calls from a certain section of fans to turn Rhodes heel, WWE and the man himself have refused to do so.

Cody Rhodes has achieved a lot of success as a good guy. He is currently reigning as the Undisputed WWE Champion, most recently fending off the challenge of Randy Orton at WrestleMania 42.

Cody Rhodes and Paul Heyman come face-to-face on WWE SmackDown

On last week’s episode of SmackDown, Gunther shockingly laid down a beatdown on Cody Rhodes. This week, it was confirmed that The Ring General has now moved over to the blue brand.

Rhodes was looking to get some answers out of Gunther on the latest edition of SmackDown, but to his surprise, Paul Heyman interrupted him. The American Nightmare asked Heyman if he is now the advocate for Gunther, to which The Oracle replied in the negative.

Paul Heyman then revealed that the favor he owed Gunther for saving him from Seth Rollins was to set up an Undisputed WWE Championship match at Clash In Italy on May 31.

During the verbal back-and-forth between Heyman and Rhodes, the latter mentioned how some of The Oracle’s well-known clients, like Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns, and CM Punk, are no longer by his side. He then asked Paul Heyman whether he is pulling off this new act because he is out of options.

Cody Rhodes: “Brock Lesnar retired on you. The Tribal Chief [Roman Reigns] wants nothing to do with you. CM Punk has discarded you. So you’re standing in the ring, right here, you and I, I have to ask, is it because you’re out of options?”

A confident-looking Heyman responded by saying that he is not the one “running out of options.” The WWE Hall of Famer finished off his statement by claiming that there is always a need for the Wise Man.

This particular remark may have hinted that Cody Rhodes could align with Paul Heyman, as a heel, somewhere down the line.

Paul Heyman: “The way I look at it, Cody Rhodes, I’m not the one running out of options. Sooner or later they all need the Wise Man.”

Could Heyman play a role in Rhodes finally joining the dark side in WWE? Only time will tell.
