WWE Allegedly Made A Massive Mistake With Jacob Fatu

WWE star Jacob Fatu

Veteran claims WWE is not using Jacob Fatu properly.

In October 2025, Fatu was brutally attacked backstage on WWE SmackDown. He was found bloodied and beaten with several teeth knocked out on the floor, forcing him out of a scheduled #1 Contender’s match against Drew McIntyre.

The attacker’s identity remained a mystery for months, fueling speculation that it could be Cody Rhodes, Drew McIntyre, or someone else. The attack angle was created to write Fatu off television because he was dealing with a legitimate dental issue.

Fatu made his return a few weeks ago during the Three Stages of Hell match between Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes for the WWE Undisputed Championship. He entered the steel cage and assaulted first Cody Rhodes and then Drew McIntyre. When Fatu was busy with Rhodes, McIntyre sneaked out of the ring to win the match and the title.

Cody Rhodes recently called out Fatu on SmackDown for costing him the WWE Undisputed Title and promised to make him pay for it. It appears that WWE is attempting to build a feud between Fatu and Rhodes, but it remains uncertain whether they’ll pursue that path, as Rhodes is determined to reclaim his title from McIntyre.

Jacob Fatu Needs A Meaningful Storyline To Shine

Speaking on the Coach and Bro Show, Vince Russo commented on the recently returned star Jacob Fatu’s current situation in WWE. The veteran claimed that Fatu has enormous potential, but WWE is wasting it by not putting him in a meaningful storyline.

Here’s what’s happening now. They got Fatu, Jacob Fatu, guys. You could look at Jacob Fatu and know he’s got the IT factor. You know, this guy’s a star. This guy’s special. This guy stands out.

Here’s the problem. You still got to do something with him, Coach. You still got to give him material. You still got to give him storyline week to week to week to week. And that’s what they failed to do.

So now you got a guy that’s a star, but that’s only going to carry him so far. You’ve got to put him in storylines that are going to interest the viewers of the show. (From 47:26)
