A WWE Hall of Famer has compared Bayley’s ability to reinvent herself to AEW star Chris Jericho.
Multi-time Women’s Champion Bayley made her return to WWE at SummerSlam after over a year of action due to a serious knee injury.
While still a heel, Bayley made some changes to her character from the off, having recruited Dakota Kai and IYO SKY to form her own new faction, Damage Control.
Previously, the star’s original heel turn in 2019 was a huge change from her bubbly superfan character who was a beacon of positivity who wanted to hug the world.
During a recent edition of his DDP Snake Pit podcast with Jake Roberts, Diamond Dallas Page discussed Bayley’s recent return and the changes to her persona. He praised the former NXT star and favourably compared her to the man who has reinvented himself more than perhaps any other wrestler, Chris Jericho.
“Dude? It’s like she wrestled three weeks ago, two weeks ago. She went out there, that girl I mean, if you go all the way back to how they brought her in, you know with, like, the biggest I’m so happy to be here. And that was a shoot, I’m sure, to a certain degree, but that girl is going through one transit like she’s almost Jericho-ish with some of her reinventions of herself, you know, and I love it.
She knows who she is. And she went out there and if she was doubting herself, I never saw it, you know? And I think that having Dakota Kai there with her was a big deal too because they weren’t up together you know, and Bayley got that pop way sooner.”
For his part, Chris Jericho has recently dug back into his past to bring aspects of his old Lionheart persona to AEW. He is currently involved in the ‘Champions Tournament’ to decide the new AEW World Champion. Jericho will face Bryan Danielson in the semi-finals.
