What WWE Had Planned For Randy Orton/Matt Riddle Storyline

A new report has shed light on what WWE’s plans were for the Randy Orton/Matt Riddle storyline that had to be shelved when Orton got injured.

Randy Orton and Matt Riddle became one of the unlikeliest tag teams in recent history when they began teaming together in April 2021. With Riddle taking on the role of annoying little brother, many fans wondered how long it would be before The Viper showed his true colours and turned on his endearing partner.

But the turn never came and week by week Randy Orton seemed to take to Riddle’s unique personality more and more. Success followed with RK-Bro winning the Raw Tag Team Championship for the first time at SummerSlam 2021.

They lost the belts to Alpha Academy but remained as a unit and regained the title in March 2022 on Raw. Just two months later, however, RK-Bro found themselves in a title unification match with SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos with Jimmy and Jey coming out on top with all the gold.

Following that match, Randy Orton disappeared from WWE television with an injury that has now kept him out of action for longer than many had originally anticipated.

WrestleVotes has now reported that there was a plan in place when Orton returned to WWE screens and it would have meant heartbreak for fans and for The Original Bro:

“When Randy Orton went down, the plan was for him to come back and immediately turn on Matt Riddle.”

It should be noted that these plans were in place when Vince McMahon’s regime was still in charge and Triple H might have very different ideas for his former Evolution protege if and when he does return to the ring.
