WWE Allegedly Committed Huge Mistake Regarding AEW
WWE has allegedly committed a mistake concerning AEW.
When AEW first launched in 2019, it was clear that the Jacksonville-based promotion was a direct competitor to WWE. Their weekly show, Dynamite, went head-to-head with NXT and even won the ratings war. This forced WWE to change NXT from Wednesday to Tuesday.
While it is evident that both wrestling promotions are competitors, WWE has refuse to acknowledge AEW has a legit threat to them. However, they have tried to book their PLEs to coincide with AEW programming several times. The tide has since turned for both companies. While RAW and SmackDown have seen a dip in the ratings due to poor booking, Dynamite and Collision’s rating have gone up. Road Dogg even recently said that WWE underestimated AEW.
During a recent edition of Behind The Turnbuckle Studios’ Coach and Bro Show, Vince Russo said that he doesn’t know WWE managed to underestimate a billionaire like Tony Khan. He also said that the sports entertainment juggernaut underestimating TNA Wrestling back in the day made sense since the Carters weren’t billionaires. Vince Russo also noted that WWE should’ve never underestimated Tony Khan considering he has endless funds.
“Yeah, and I don’t know how. How do you underestimate a billionaire? Cause I can understand underestimating them if they don’t have a lot of money. I totally get that. You know, TNA, the Carters were not billionaires. Tony Khan was a billionaire. I would have never underestimated anything just knowing he had endless funds.”
Vince Russo opened up about Triple H’s creative authority in WWE
In recent months, Triple H’s booking has been under brought into question. Many fans and critics have been unhappy about the WWE product in recent months and they have been vocal about it. Even Karrion Kross addressed this during a recent interview and said that the higher ups might be interfering in Triple H’s decision-making.
During the same podcast episode, Vince Russo agreed with Karrion Kross’ comments, stating that Triple H might’ve had full creative control in the beginning, but that isn’t the case any more.
“Yeah, my take was that’s what the situation turned into. I would believe he had full creative control at the beginning, but looking at the results, now that chime in, you know, Coach, we’re talking about New York at the beginning of this show. George Steinbrenner, bro, when the Yankees started going south, George got involved. Yes, he did. He got involved with lineups like he got involved. This case sounds very, very similar to me. It really does.”
WWE has to make a drastic change so that they can get the ratings back up again.
