“I Went To Jail” – WWE Legend CJ Perry Shares Untold Story
Former WWE star CJ Perry recently made a public reveal of an incident from her life that changed her perspective.
CJ Perry, known in WWE as Lana, worked for the Stamford-based promotion between 2014 and 2021.
She rose to prominence as Rusev’s manager and used her heat-attracting skills to help make Rusev a top heel.
Perry wasn’t much of an in-ring wrestler with a few matches to her name, but she wrestled more between 2019 and 2021.
She is married to Rusev in real life. Recently, in an appearance on TMZ‘s Inside The Ring, Perry revealed an incident that would change her outlook on life.
WWE Legend CJ Perry Reflects On Going To Jail For Smoking Weed.
In the Inside The Ring episode that aired on January 20, where she was the guest alongside Daira Rae, Perry revealed that she was arrested at age 25 while driving from Atlanta, where she lived, to Florida State to re-audition for school.
It was her birthday, and she admits she was being reckless. The former WWE star says she admitted to having smoked weed while driving to the cops when they pulled her over for speeding at 91 mph in a 75mph zone.
I was speeding. I was going 91 in a 75 zone—talk about stupid. My tags were expired. One of my lights was out. And on top of that, in the state of Georgia, I was smoking weed, which is illegal—while driving. I know. I was not well. They were like, ‘It smells like weed,’ and I said, ‘I’m smoking weed, I’m so sorry.’ I fully ratted myself out.
I went to jail. I was nine hours away from Nashville at that point, stuck in Georgia. My dad and my mom let me sit there for three days. They were just like, ‘CJ, you know the law.’
Her parents’ decision not to bail her out and let her be there for 3 days made her look at life very differently after.
There were women in that jail who had been there for over a year. You only get to go outside for one hour a week. And it made me think, why do I complain about anything? Why do I complain about boys, about stupid stuff? Just having your freedom and being able to look at the blue sky every day—that’s everything
Perry then reveals that three years to the day of her arrest, on her birthday, she got her WWE job. She considers this a sign from the universe.
They told me, ‘We love you, but we think you need to think about your actions.’ I came out of that experience incredibly grateful. It really impacted my life. And three years later, on my birthday, I got my job in WWE. I truly felt like that was a gift from the universe, saying, ‘Do the right thing. Be a good person. Follow the law. Work hard—and you’ll get what you’re meant to have.
