Former WWE Champion Planning Political Career – “I Love Everything About Politics”
A former WWE World Champion is considering entering politics after wrestling.
Dolph Ziggler had an incredible 20-year career in WWE as a 2-time World Heavyweight Champion, going on to hold many other championships.
Since departing WWE, Ziggler has wrestled under his real name, Nic Nemeth, and is a former TNA World Champion. At 45, Nemeth still wrestles regularly and continues to put on outstanding matches everywhere he goes.
Outside the ring, the former amateur wrestler from Kent State University has always had political aspirations.
During an appearance on the Generation of Wrestling Podcast, the former World Champion talked about his dreams from over 20 years ago when wrestling and politics were involved.
“20 years ago, the plan was to be pre-law at Kent State—yes, sir. Become a lawyer while I’m training for wrestling, become a two-time world champion, host Saturday Night Live, join UFC for one fight, and then go on to become like the mayor of Palm Springs, and then move my way into being like a senator.”
As he continued, Nemeth talked about his days in university when the 2000 US Presidential Election happened, as George W. Bush and Al Gore’s race was so close it was essentially a tie until more votes were tallied and Bush won to become President.
“I still have those political aspirations. I love everything about politics, and so many people started following it about 10–11 years ago, but my—like, it gets a little crazy with some people now.
In college, there was a tie for the presidential election—there was a tie in 2000—and nobody cared on my campus because nobody gave a damn about it. And now too many people might care about it.”
While many Americans and observers around the world appear to be into politics more in this era than ever before, Nemeth recalled how, in 2000, when there was a tie in the US Presidential Election, a lot of his friends didn’t seem to care.
“So it was funny—there was a tie, and I’m like, ‘Guys, there’s a tie.’ Nobody in my house cared. I had a class called The Presidency that was doing a 40-page thing on the follow-up of the entire election, and we were turning it in the day after the election, but they didn’t have a winner. So it was so funny. I’m like, ‘This is unprecedented—there’s a tie.’ The 13 people in my class cared, and nobody else on campus did.
So I love politics. I still follow the law. I get certain ‘laws for dummies’ books, and that’s something I like to read in between, just to stay sharp and learn as much as I possibly can.”
Former WWE Champion Nic Nemeth Remains Interested In Political Career
The future WWE Hall of Famer, Nic Nemeth, would go on to confirm that he’s still very much interested in politics and could even get involved in the Cleveland, Ohio area, which is where he’s from.
“So yes, I absolutely would still love to do that, and I feel like that would be something that I could very, very well do—some good, maybe for Cleveland down the line.”
At TNA Rebellion in Cleveland, Nic Nemeth will be in action against AJ Francis, who was also in WWE as Top Dolla.
