WWE: Bubba Ray Dudley Says He’s Bringing Back Old WWF Tag Team Championship

A new poll on WWE.comasked fans which one of the current titles needs a redesign. The choices were: WWE Tag Team Championship, Divas Championship, Intercontinental Championship, United States Championship, and WWE World Heavyweight Championship. As of right now there have been over 61,000 votes. The results of the poll are as follows: 50% Divas Championship, 20% WWE Tag Team Championship, 13% WWE World Heavyweight Championship, 12% United States Championship, and 5% Intercontinental Championship.

Bubba Ray Dudley responded to this poll by voicing his vote on Twitter. He said that the next time the Dudley Boyz win the Tag Team Championship, they’ll be bringing back the classic WWF World Tag Team Titles.

In case you need a reminder, here’s a look at what the current tag team title looks like.

Mark’s reaction: Bringing back the classic WWF World Tag Team Championships would be cool. Out of all the various tag titles the WWE’s had over the years, I’ve personally liked those the best. However, there was something about those old Smackdown WWE Tag Team Titles that I really liked too. I’m a sucker for big gold belts (R.I.P. World Heavyweight Championship).

It’s worth noting that just because Bubba Ray Dudley tweeted this, doesn’t mean that it’s set in stone that they’ll definitely bring back the old belts. The final decision is always ultimately up to the WWE brass. However, I don’t think the Dudley’s bringing back these old belts are totally out of the realm of possibility. We’ve seen the WWE bring back old-school titles before when Cody Rhodes replaced their (at the time) current Intercontinental Championship with the classic WWF Intercontinental Championship that we see today. I also think the Dudley Boyz have a shot at winning the tag team titles one last time before they retire. I don’t know if this prediction will make it to my 2016 picks for the TJR 2016 Predictions column coming out soon since I have a lot of other predictions rolling around in my head, but I do think the Dudleys will grab gold again this year. If the New Age Outlaws could do it, so can the Dudley Boyz. I also see them dropping the belts to an NXT Tag Team upon being called up in order to put them over (e.g. The Vaudevillains or Enzo and Big Cass).

My stance on the current look of the WWE Tag Team Championships is sort of neutral. When the Hart Dynasty (Tyson Kidd and D.H. Smith) were presented with the new belts back in 2010, I hated them. I thought they looked very cheesy and agreed with the general internet consensus that they pretty much looked like giant pennies. However, they have definitely grown on me to the point where I don’t really mind them at all anymore. Still, I would not be devastated in the least if they decided to get rid of them.
