Chris Jericho is back in AEW, but there is one WWE Hall of Famer who thinks the fans don’t deserve to see him again.

The legendary Chris Jericho made his return to AEW on the April 1st episode of Dynamite in his hometown of Winnipeg.

Jericho’s shocking return to AEW television came after sitting at home for the past year without any explanation for why he was taken off AEW television. There was also plenty of speculation that Jericho would be returning to WWE, which is where he spent nearly 20 years from August 1999 until he departed in April 2018.

Even though Chris Jericho did talk to WWE about returning, he chose to return to AEW, where he became the first World Champion in the company’s history in 2019.

On the April 8th edition of AEW Dynamite, Chris Jericho was in full babyface mode, talking about how great it was to be back in AEW while signing his new contract with the company. Jericho was also confronted by Ricochet and his group, The Demand. The Jericho-Ricochet discussion led to a match between them being set up for AEW Dynasty on Sunday, April 12th.  The promo also saw Jericho bring back the “The List” gimmick he used in WWE about a decade earlier.

During a recent episode of Busted Open Radio, WWE Hall of Famer Bubba Ray Dudley, aka Bully Ray, blasted AEW fans for how they have treated a legend like Jericho.

“I hate it. That fanbase, the majority of that fanbase, has been shi**ing all over Chris Jericho for a long time now. The AEW fanbase does not deserve Chris Jericho.

“The amount of AEW fans who have shown how two-faced they are, who completely bashed Jericho, booed Jericho, bad-mouthed Jericho, to the point where he had to come off of Twitter, now singing the praises of Chris Jericho because he stayed with AEW.

And they’re not singing the praises of Chris Jericho because they love Chris Jericho or appreciate Chris Jericho. They’re just doing it because he didn’t go to the WWE

I’m not a fan of Chris staying with AEW. Chris has done everything that he possibly could have done organically in AEW. Who is he going to work with now that is going to be such a big deal in AEW?” (H/T WrestlingInc)

Chris Jericho Had A Choice Between AEW And WWE

During his appearance on the Coach & Bro Show with Jonathan Coachman & Vince Russo, AEW CEO Tony Khan admitted that Chris Jericho had a choice of coming back to AEW or returning to WWE. Khan happily spoke about Jericho deciding to return to WWE.

“I do know Chris Jericho had a choice, and he wanted to be in AEW. He would be the best person to ask, but I know that I’ve been in communication with Chris, and he definitely told me he wanted to be in AEW—and very specifically in Winnipeg on that day.”

“We had that circled back for a long time, going back to last year. It was a choice that Chris made, that he’d rather be in AEW than anywhere else.”

“I can’t say for sure, Coach, exactly what his mind was, but I know definitely he has been consistent—he loves AEW and wants to be here, and I’m glad he chose AEW.”

“Because that’s a choice he made, because he was a free agent.”
