Wrestling Veteran Suggests Change For Cody Rhodes Ahead Of Massive WWE Rivalry
Cody Rhodes could be facing one of the biggest stars in WWE this summer, and a wrestling veteran thinks a change is needed.
Ever since he returned to WWE four years ago at WrestleMania 38 in 2022, Cody Rhodes has been the biggest babyface in WWE. As “QB1,” as Cody likes to say, he has been leading the way as the most popular wrestler in the company, selling a lot of merchandise and getting huge responses from the crowd every time he’s in the ring for a match or a promo.
In his WrestleMania 42 main event match with Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes successfully retained the Undisputed WWE Championship even though Orton had help from a meddling ally named Pat McAfee. A frustrated Orton hit McAfee with an RKO late in the match, and that allowed Cody to hit Cross Rhodes to beat Orton.
Post match, Orton attacked Rhodes with the WWE Title and kicked him in the head with a dreaded Punt. Rhodes had a massive black eye around his left eye and a huge cut on his head as well.
Even though he was a bruised and bloody mess, Cody Rhodes showed up on WWE Monday Night Raw after WrestleMania to chat with his old friend, CM Punk, who lost his World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania. After the two men exchanged pleasantries, Cody made it clear he would defend the WWE Title against Punk at any time.
While speaking about a potential Cody Rhodes-CM Punk rivalry that would be a massive feud within WWE, wrestling legend Jim Cornette said on his Drive-Thru podcast that Cody should become a heel.
“I’ll tell you what I think would be the hottest thing they could do right from this very point is f**king have Punk and Cody work a program where we eventually see Cody turn heel on Punk and become the Golden Boy. I’m telling you. And then we could see some promos.”
Cornette would go on to argue that Punk shouldn’t turn heel any time soon because of his connection with the audience.
“CM Punk ain’t turning heel. I can guarantee. Now, he might do questionable things, which sometimes CM Punk might do to other babyfaces because he just f**king fought one. I’m not saying that Punk is like, ‘I won’t turn heel, no matter what.’ I’m saying there’s no reason at this stage of his career, with the amount of people that like him and buy his merchandise, and with the connection he has to them, can verbalize, etc.”
Cody Rhodes Really Enjoys Being A Babyface In WWE
There will always be people suggesting a Cody Rhodes heel turn since he’s been locked in as a top babyface for the past four years.
However, Cody Rhodes admitted in an interview before WrestleMania 42 that he really enjoys being in the babyface role.
“For a long time, there were a lot of anti-heroes. Just recently, it felt like WWE hit this stride with so much youth in the audience that it felt like babyfaces came back to life. Jey Uso, for example, is somebody that the kids go crazy for. Sami Zayn is out there doing it.
And for me to be able to be in that spot, I don’t want to leave it. It’s so much fun.”
On WWE SmackDown, Cody Rhodes delivered a strong promo, stating that he gets knocked down often but keeps getting up, and that he’s going to be a tough man to put down.
