Why There Is Some Resentment Toward Jade Cargill Among WWE Peers
Jade Cargill getting pushed to the top of the WWE women’s division may have ruffled some feathers in the company.
As the WWE Women’s Champion since winning the title on November 1st, 2025, Jade Cargill watched from a Skybox as Rhea Ripley won the Women’s Elimination Chamber Match in Chicago.
Ripley’s reward for winning the Women’s Elimination Chamber is a WWE Women’s Championship Match against Cargill at WrestleMania 41 on April 18 & 19.
After the WrestleMania match was announced, Cargill and Ripley engaged in a war of words on social media, as many WWE superstars do to try to build their upcoming matches while staying within company storylines.
However, Cargill apparently upset people legitimately by suggesting that Ripley sucks up to the creative team so that they could push her more.
Rhea Ripley didn’t take too kindly to what Cargill wrote, and Ripley posted this message on Instagram in response.
“Not having fun. Not friends. Learn to work and never lie to defame someone’s real human character by ‘breaking the 4th wall”
In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer wrote about how the Cargill/Ripley exchanges were received backstage and how it was similar to a Cargill situation in the past.
“While this was not a shoot, no matter what people tell you, because WWE forbids that type of thing from its talent on social media platforms, the reality is what was said about Cargill was almost identical to what several other women talent have told me over the past year, really starting after the Shayna Baszler and Cargill confrontation went public.”
The Baszler/Cargill situation was reported on in March 2025 regarding the time when Cargill complained about Baszler bruising her and Baszler warning Cargill that if she was “shooting” then Cargill would have known.
Jade Cargill May Be Dealing With Resentment Among WWE Peers
Unlike many of the women in WWE, Jade Cargill did not go through the NXT system or have much experience working before she got to WWE. Instead, Jade worked for and dominated in AEW before going ot WWE.
As Meltzer wrote in the Observer, there could be some women who resent Cargill because they paid their dues in wrestling and don’t get pushed, while Cargill is the WWE Women’s Champion because of her impressive look.
“It’s natural with the resentment of her being pushed while not being good in the ring or anything special on promos, but completely due to her unique look. There was a feeling that look or not, she didn’t get over to the level others have, didn’t improve in the ring and in the case starting in the wake of the Baszler situation, would blame her partners when matches had issues. Most of the women believe they are better and didn’t get the same chances, which leads to resentment.”
On WWE SmackDown in Portland, Rhea Ripley and Jade Cargill will be on the show to build to their WrestleMania 42 match.
