Vince McMahon Had Strange Booking Idea For Current WWE Star

Vince McMahon

Vince McMahon had his creative genius questioned when tabling an unusual booking idea in 2022.

Having enjoyed tremendous success in both NXT and NXT UK for five years after signing with WWE, Pete Dunne was finally handed a main roster call up on the 11th March 2022 episode of SmackDown.

Dunne was aligned with Sheamus and fellow Brit Ridge Holland to form the Brawling Brutes stable. The Birmingham-born man was repackaged as Butch in a move that raised eyebrows given his previous success on WWE’s developmental brand.

During an appearance on Muscle Man Malcolm, former WWE Superstar Mansoor revealed that Vince McMahon had surprising plans for the former WWE United Kingdom Champion:

“Vince McMahon wanted Butch to be a guy that never wrestles. Vince wanted Butch, Pete Dunne, to be a scrappy little guy, who just attacks people, but he never wanted Butch to actually wrestle a match.”

Thankfully, McMahon relented and the newly renamed Butch would go on to enjoy reasonable success on SmackDown, including competing in the main event of Survivor Series: WarGames on 26th November 2022.

Fans would consistently voice a desire for the former NXT Tag Team Champion to return to his previous persona, however, finally receiving their wish on the 19th January 2024 edition of SmackDown when it as announced that he had returned to the Pete Dunne moniker.

Could Vince McMahon Compete At The 2024 Royal Rumble?

Despite no longer being at the helm of WWE creative, one WWE Hall Of Famer would not be surprised to see Vince McMahon return to in-ring action at the Royal Rumble on 27th January.

Booker T recently stated that he couldn’t rule out a return for the 78 year-old former Royal Rumble winner at this years event emanating from Florida’s Tropicana Field.
