Report On How Triple H Views Gunther Compared To How Vince McMahon Felt

Triple H with Gunther

A new report has shed some light on Triple H being a big fan of WWE superstar GUNTHER while Vince McMahon apparently didn’t think so highly about the Austrian superstar.

The current WWE Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER has been a part of WWE since 2019 when he was assigned to the NXT UK brand. Paul “Triple H” Levesque was running talents and overseeing the NXT & NXT UK brands when GUNTHER (then named WALTER) signed.

During his NXT UK career, GUNTHER had a dominant run as the NXT UK Champion that held the title for an incredible 870 days. Part of that title reign was because there were no shows for many months in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In April 2022 after WrestleMania 38, GUNTHER was renamed and moved to Smackdown. Two months later in June, he won the Intercontinental Title from Ricochet and has been a dominant champion ever since.

On the November 4th edition of Smackdown, GUNTHER beat Rey Mysterio in a thrilling main event match to keep his title. At September’s WWE Clash at the Castle event, GUNTHER beat Sheamus in what many observers are calling the WWE Match of the Year.

It is clear that WWE’s Chief Content Officer (and Head of WWE Creative) Triple H thinks highly of the man that delivers hard chops. The Twitter account @WrestleVotes has provided some insight into how WWE views GUNTHER with these comments to GiveMeSport:

“Gunther is going to be around for a long time. He’s got real potential as a heel, and he’s going be here for 10/12 years. He’s going to open some shows, he’s going to close some shows, but he’s just going to be a solid match every night. That’s what Hunters sees in him right now.”

“Hunter likes him and he’s going to give him a shot. People are starting to understand what he is and the Clash at the Castle deal with Sheamus helped.”

It was added by WrestleVotes that former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon didn’t think as fondly about GUNTHER. Apparently, Vince wanted to “bury” GUNTHER after a segment between the Intercontinental Champion and R-Truth on the July 4th edition of Raw.

“I know that Vince McMahon just didn’t like what he saw on Raw and was over him, like legitimately wanted to bury him, go back to NXT, that type of stuff.”

The good news for fans of GUNTHER is that Vince McMahon retired from WWE a few weeks later, Triple H took over WWE’s creative team and GUNTHER has continued to look dominant with no signs of slowing down for the Imperium leader.
