Triple H and his booking are under fire yet again, but this time, the problems are being laid out in WWE’s top WrestleMania 42 storyline.

Triple H has been repeatedly criticised for his booking decisions for the past several months. Fans and critics were not happy with how The Game and his creative team went about handling John Cena’s high-profile retirement tour, which contained a historic heel turn that turned out to be temporary and a loss in his final match via tapout, undoing his “never give up” mantra.

Other feuds, storylines, and character arcs have come under scrutiny as well, with fans regularly showcasing their dislike for Cody Rhodes being the face of the company and WWE Champion for a prolonged period since WrestleMania 40.

Fans were thrilled when Drew McIntyre won the title from Rhodes in January and expected the Scottish Psychopath to be at WrestleMania as champion. Instead, Rhodes won back the belt last month, and the video of that match is one of the most disliked videos on WWE’s official YouTube channel.

Now, fans are disappointed at the inclusion of Pat McAfee in the storyline for the WWE Championship match between Cody Rhodes and Rany Orton amid Orton’s heel turn, serving to be the explanation behind The Viper’s recent actions.

McAfee came out on SmackDown and attacked Rhodes, claiming that he was the problem and that Randy Orton would “save the business” from the shape it is currently in. Rhodes snapped back with a promo of his own in which he threw shade at TKO CEO Ari Emanuel, who is also McAfee’s agent. World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk also insulted McAfee and took shots at TKO during his pipebomb promo on Raw last week for pricing WrestleMania 42 tickets at unaffordable rates.

Things got even more chaotic when McAfee emerged this past Friday on SmackDown and announced a 25 % discount on tickets for Night 1, the night Randy Orton vs Cody Rhodes takes place. Rhodes then made his way to the ring to confront McAfee and asked him to “go home”, echoing fan sentiments of McAfee’s awkward inclusion in the storyline. The American Nightmare was, however, put down once again by Randy Orton and Pat McAfee by the end of the segment.

WWE Veteran Vince Russo Thinks Triple H Could Be Fired If WrestleMania 42 Gets A Poor Response

Vince Russo, who has viciously criticized Triple H every week on the Coach & Bro Show for The Game’s booking decisions and creative direction, said on the latest episode that WWE’s CCO may well be on his way out if WrestleMania 42 turns out to be underwhelming.

He also said that he thinks Cody Rhodes and Pat McAfee cut unscripted promos last week on SmackDown. Russo believes that McAfee has the opinions of an everyman and was asked to go out there and talk about how he felt by his agent, Ari Emanuel. He points out that unless Vince McMahon himself shows up at the event, it could be curtains for Triple H in creative.

Yeah Coach, I think what we’re seeing is a clear divide. Which leads me to believe that it’s Triple H’s head on the chopping block. I really feel that because I believe McAfee’s saying that, I really do because there’s something about McAfee like McAfee’s kind of everyman.

If it were scripted, he wouldn’t say anything. He’s not gonna go out there and lie. He’s not gonna go out there and blatantly lie.

I believe Ari his agent – go out there bro. Tell us how you really feel. And he said how we really feel.

Now think about Triple H sitting back and listening to all that. And who’s he really talking about? who’s the guy in charge? Who’s the guy in charge of the SmackDown ratings sucking? Triple H.

Who’ve we seen put their heads together in the back and tell him how great each other are? Triple H and CM Punk.

Guys there’s a game going on here and that’s why I said to Coach. Coach unless Vince McMahon himself shows up at WrestleMania and this is a ho-hum show and these are the comments you’re gonna be reading Sunday night – that could be the final nail in the coffin. (1:11:35 onwards)
