A former WWE executive admitted that Triple H has a lot of interest in one of AEW’s biggest names.

Brian James is better known as WWE Hall of Famer Road Dogg, who was part of the D-Generation X stable when Paul “Triple H” Levesque led the group. After retiring as a wrestler, Road Dogg had multiple stints in WWE behind the scenes.

In early March, Road Dogg quit his job as a lead writer on the WWE SmackDown creative team because he disagreed with how the company was being run.

The fact that Road Dogg willingly quit shows that even though he has been a close friend of WWE’s Chief Content Officer, Triple H, for over three decades, there’s obviously a disconnect there to some degree.

Part of the reason that Road Dogg wanted to get out of WWE is also that he wanted to do more autograph signings with his Hall of Fame tag team partner, Billy Gunn. As a team, they were the legendary New Age Outlaws. Gunn has worked behind the scenes in AEW since the company launched in 2019, and his two sons, Austin & Colten, are wrestlers in AEW as well.

WWE And Triple H Likely Had Interest In Singing AEW’s MJF

During a recent virtual signing, Road Dogg was asked if WWE had any interest in signing the two-time and current AEW World Champion, Maxwell Jacob Friedman, who, at 30 years old, is one of the most impressive pro wrestlers in the world.

“Yes, a couple times (there were discussions about wanting to bring MJF to WWE).”

When Road Dogg was asked why it didn’t work out, the Hall of Famer replied:

“We didn’t do it. It was always at a pivotal time and he always had something better to fall down on.” (h/T Fightful)

In the past, MJF talked about the “Bidding War of 2024” for when he might become a wrestling free agent, but it’s believed he signed a new, long-term, big-money extension with AEW in late 2023, and he may never have gotten close to free agency.
