Roman Reigns overcame one of his major challenges at WrestleMania.

The Original Tribal Chief entered the title picture following his victory at the Royal Rumble PLE, where he defeated 29 other participants in the Rumble match.

He subsequently chose World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk as his choice of champion for WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

During their ‘Mania bout, both superstars traded hard-hitting offensive moves to keep their opponent on the mat. Punk even got busted open after a shot to the head by the steel steps, which should have been an automatic disqualification.

However, the match continued, and by the end, Punk ran out of steam, leading to Reigns capitalizing on it by hitting two Spears for the victory.

On the Raw episode following WrestleMania, Roman Reigns made his first appearance as the World Heavyweight Champion, where he also reunited with his former Bloodline stablemates, Jey & Jimmy Uso.

Reigns was surprisingly confronted by his real-life bloodline cousin, Jacob Fatu, who ended his feud with Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania in an Unsanctioned Match with a victory.

Triple H Confirms Roman Reigns Appearance At WWE Backlash

WWE’s next premium live event is Backlash, scheduled to take place at the Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida, on May 9.

Triple H & Co. aim to build a strong card for the show that does justice to the storytelling on the back of a WrestleMania received with mixed reaction by fans.

While Jacob Fatu has challenged Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship at Backlash, the match has not been made official.

Reigns is scheduled to appear on Raw on May 4 with an answer to his cousin’s challenge. Meanwhile, The Usos have been trying to convince Fatu to step back from his challenge and align with them instead.

On Friday’s SmackDown taping, The Samoan Werewolf was met in the ring by Solo Sikoa and the MFTs, who offered him help to take down Reigns and The Usos. Instead, the segment ended by setting up a singles match between Fatu and Sikoa.

Despite interference from Sikoa’s stablemates, Fatu won the match and beat them up later to put The Usos and Roman Reigns on notice.

Elsewhere, WWE Chief Content Officer confirmed the presence of the OTC at Backlash via a tweet on X, although he did not clarify in what capacity.

In the comment sections, the fans criticized Triple H for promoting the multi-time champion just one day after releasing several superstars from WWE.
