Tribute Paid To WWE’s Most Underappreciated Talent
A WWE announcer has praised another veteran performer in the company who may not get the credit he deserves.
When Wade Barrett signed with WWE in their mid-2000s, he was part of the developmental system along with Byron Saxton. During their WWE careers, Wade had more success in the ring since he won the first season of NXT in 2010 and is a five-time Intercontinental Champion.
Some WWE fans may not know that Saxton was a wrestler too. Saxton wrestled on television sometimes, but for more than a decade, he has been working for WWE as an announcer, backstage interviewer, and a ring announcer at WWE live events. Barrett worked for WWE from 2006 to 2016, left for four years, and came back in 2020 as an announcer. Saxton, meanwhile, has had an incredible run in WWE since he has worked there consecutively since 2007, which means he has had a 17-year run in World Wrestling Entertainment.
During WrestleMania weekend, Wade Barrett was on commentary duty for the NXT Stand & Deliver PLE last Saturday in Philadelphia and also on the WrestleMania Kickoff show. Barrett is also a regular Smackdown announcer with Corey Graves.
Barrett went on Twitter/X to praise the criminally under-appreciated Saxton while also sharing a throwback photo of their FCW days with Dusty Rhodes.
“Big shout out to the most criminally under-appreciated man in @WWE, @ByronSaxton, who helped me out massively once again this past week.”
“The only guy on the team who can (and does) do literally everything, and unlike the rest of us, he never complains. He’s been holding my broadcasting hand since 2008. The MVP.”
Saxton replied to Barrett writing: “It’s always been a pleasure my friend.”
Corey Graves, who is Barrett’s broadcast partner on Smackdown, seemed to agree with Bad News by writing: “Amen.”
