Top WWE Star: “I Didn’t Talk About My Relationship For Like A Decade”

Top WWE star AJ Lee says she likes to keep her marriage private.

Punk and Lee first crossed paths in WWE when they were paired together in a high-profile love triangle storyline involving Daniel Bryan. During this, they even shared their first kiss on a live broadcast.

They were friends for about two years after the televised rivalry ended. They officially began dating in August 2013 and got married on June 13, 2014. Lee and Punk have kept their marriage very private over the past years.

Speaking in a new interview with Us Weekly, Lee shared why she prefers to keep her married life private. She noted that she didn’t even talk about her relationship for nearly a decade. She believes that aspects of her personal life should only be known to her and not to others.

However, she added that she is open to sharing certain parts of her private life, which helps her fans.

“Something I’ve tried to be purposeful about is sharing what I’m comfortable with and sharing what I think can help people.

“I don’t really take pictures of my house. I didn’t talk about my relationship for like a decade. I don’t think I even posted my husband on Instagram. I’m pretty private about the stuff that I think is just mine.”

“When I feel like there’s stuff either I’ve gone through or learned from and I can share that with people and make them feel less alone, then I’m so happy to be an open book.

“I think that’s why I have this relationship with my fans that feels so tight and everlasting. They’re so good to me because we’ve been vulnerable with each other in that way.” [H/T Us Weekly]

Both AJ Lee and CM Punk were away from WWE for almost a year. CM Punk walked away from WWE in January 2014 after the Royal Rumble due to health issues and creative frustration, while AJ Lee retired and left the company a year later in April 2015.

Punk made his return at Survivor Series 2023 in November 2023, while AJ Lee returned in September 2025 ahead of WrestlePalooza. This year, both are set to be featured on the WrestleMania 42 match card.

CM Punk will defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Roman Reigns, while AJ Lee will put her Women’s Intercontinental Championship on the line against Becky Lynch.

Punk won the World Heavyweight Championship by defeating Jey Uso on November 1, 2025, at Saturday Night’s Main Event XLI in Salt Lake City. The championship had been vacated after Seth Rollins was stripped of the title due to a legitimate shoulder injury he sustained at Crown Jewel 2025 in October 2025.

Whereas AJ Lee won the Women’s Intercontinental Championship by defeating Becky Lynch at Elimination Chamber 2026 in February.
