Top WWE Star Joining Sasha Banks In Japan

Sasha Banks

A former champion and current top WWE star is traveling to Japan to support Sasha Banks at Wrestle Kingdom!

Ever since she and Naomi walked out of WWE Raw back in May, speculation about Sasha Banks’ WWE status has run rampant. Questions about her future were at least partially answered when it was announced that the star, real name Mercedes Varnado, would be making an appearance at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom on January 4th.

While she reportedly came close to a new WWE deal, the two sides could not come to terms on money, and Banks is said to be officially done with WWE ahead of her NJPW appearance as she became a free agent on January 1st.

A report on January 2nd revealed that Mercedes Varnado’s former tag team partner Naomi, real name Trinity Fatu, would be in Japan to support her friend, though she is not scheduled to make an appearance per the report from PWInsider.

Now, a further report from PWInsider reveals that another of Varnado’s former tag team partners is also traveling to Japan in support of her friend. According to the report, Damage CTRL leader Bayley will be in Tokyo on January 4th, though it is doubtful that she’d make an appearance as she’s currently contracted to WWE. PWInsider could not confirm whether or not WWE is sending Bayley to Japan, but it’s likely that she’s traveling on her own to support her longtime friend.

While plans for Sasha Banks at Wrestle Kingdom are as yet unclear, it’s expected that she’ll make an appearance during the IWGP Women’s Championship match between KAIRI and Tam Nakano on the show.
